A Tribute to Washington & the Gardens of Mount Vernon

This garden pays homage to George Washington, Commander of the Continental Army, first President of the United States, and a devoted steward of the land. Often compared to the Roman statesman Cincinnatus, Washington embodied civic virtue, answering the call to lead and then returning to private life. 

Following his presidency, Washington took pride in being known as “the first farmer in America.” He managed his 50,000-acre estate with innovative crop rotation and a scientific approach to agriculture. His passion extended to landscape design, personally overseeing the gardens at Mount Vernon and experimenting with what would thrive in Virginia soil. 

Landscape Design Solutions' 2026 garden reflects that spirit, featuring a distant view of the Mount Vernon mansion from the West Entrance, framed by a tree-lined roadway and circular entryway—a landscape that honors Washington’s agricultural vision and timeless American elegance.

Victory Garden

Oakland Nursery Design invites guests to step back in time and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States with a vintage-inspired Victory Garden. This nostalgic display honors the spirit of resilience and community that helped shape the nation.

The garden features classic raised beds, heirloom vegetables, companion planting techniques, and timeless design elements reminiscent of the 1940s. Visitors can learn how to grow their own food with style and sustainability, just as generations did in the past. In the spirit of giving back, Oakland Nursery is also hosting a canned food drive at their booth to support local families in need.

Whether seasoned gardeners or beginners, guests will find inspiration, practical tips, and a touch of patriotic nostalgia as they explore America’s gardening roots and a future of self-sufficiency.

Southern Colonial Garden

In this graceful Colonial Revival vignette, time seems to slow to the rhythm of a gentler age. Brick and gravel paths wind through clipped boxwood and freshly blooming borders, leading the eye to a stone fountain that murmurs softly at the garden’s heart. Nearby, a grand fieldstone fireplace evokes the warmth of hearth and home, its sturdy form reflecting the craftsmanship of early New England masons. 

Beds brim with spring color—azalea, rhododendron, and flowering cherry mingle with white and purple seasonal blooms, each a tender nod to gardens of centuries past. Stars & Stripes Garden

Step into a living tribute to American history with Riepenhoff's Stars & Stripes Garden, a patriotic showcase celebrating the evolution of the U.S. flag. This immersive landscape honors the spirit of the nation through thoughtful design and historical storytelling. 

Enter through twin columns and discover three Revolutionary War-era flags, framed by a lush evergreen buffer. Bright, colorful plantings lead to a patio and pergola, perfect for outdoor entertaining, set against a peaceful privacy fence backdrop. Tall birch trees anchor the rear corners, with crabapples and a flag display stretching from the 15-star Fort McHenry flag to today’s 50-star banner. Beneath the trees, vibrant plantings add texture and seasonal color to fill the beds.  

At the garden’s center, a CLA-sponsored fir tree stands proudly in the island between entrances, surrounded by cheerful blooms that bring the space to life.

Life in the Great American Wilderness

In celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary, Seely’s Landscape invites you to explore the beauty of our National Parks through a garden inspired by the Great American Wilderness. Natural stone walls frame the pathway leading to a rustic timber pavilion, complete with cozy seating and a fireplace. 

The garden’s showpiece is a scaled-down version of Yellowstone’s iconic geyser, Old Faithful, with water spouts reaching up to 20 feet in the air at regular intervals, delighting passersby with a dramatic display. 

Towering fir and western cedar trees, along with large dawn redwoods, a locally hardy cousin of the giant redwoods, create a forest-like canopy. Beneath them, native ferns, hostas, flowering shrubs, and fragrant spring bulbs fill the garden with texture, color, and seasonal charm.
